Jayden possibly knew he was about to purchase his first home with partner Darcy when he drove from Newcastle to Sale and back on a weekend.
After stints in Newcastle and Darwin it was time to return to Victoria where he had grown up.
“We had probably been looking for six months. This place has a big yard which is perfect for our dogs and there are plenty of trees.
“It’s a 1980s house with three bedrooms and a study. We are making it our own place and getting a nursery ready for our first baby later this year.
Both Jayden and Darcy are in the Australian Defence Force. Jayden works in air force security while Darcy is a personnel capability specialist.
Jayden says he first joined in a “gap year” in 2015 and has not looked back and home ownership is only adding to that experience.
“We first found out about the housing guarantee scheme through Defence Bank. It definitely added some flexibility with no lender’s mortgage insurance and less of a deposit.
“We were also able to access the Defence Home Ownership Assistance Scheme and that really got things moving.
“Defence Bank was really strong in showing us they wanted our business.
“I’m a shift worker and they were really helpful in following up and meeting me when it was convenient.
“We had to navigate two branches with me in Newcastle and Darcy back at home in Sale but Defence Bank really simplified the process and made it really easy to get things done.
“We have both our pays coming into Defence Bank accounts and we can see our savings grow in one spot.
“The app is user friendly and handy to check quick balances.
“Having our own home means we can be flexible to do what we want, and we really like our own space, especially the backyard.
“I would encourage anyone to investigate DHOAS. We found our local Defence Bank team helpful, and they knew all about the scheme and were across the detail. Having a good conveyancer also helped us too.”
