As part of an industry-wide response to COVID-19, effective April 2020 Defence Bank temporarily increased the PIN limit for contactless card payments from $100 to $200 per transaction to reduce the need to touch payment terminals when you are out shopping.
This temporary increase is dependent on the government’s human biosecurity emergency period, a response to the pandemic, which is currently being reviewed every three months.
As the government’s emergency period has been extended to March 2021, so too will the temporary contactless payment limit of $200 per transaction without a PIN.
When paying for purchases, customers should be guided by following the PIN pad prompts. Remember, if your purchase is over $200, or you have made contactless purchases totalling $400 for the day, simply insert your card and hit credit, then enter your PIN.
